Sixth festival is best yet
26th March 2004
Organisers of the sixth annual celebration of Cuba's finest cigars are already looking ahead to next year after what they say was their best event yet. The week started with the spectacular opening night at the Morro Cabana fort where the San Cristobal de La Habana was celebrated. The splendid Churchill Floridita evening at the Nacional saw Sir Winston Churchill’s grand-daughter Jenny Reppard introduce proceedings and ensured the week was a roller-coaster ride for guests.
The Whisky & Cigar Challenge and the Habanosommelier International Contest (won by Ivo Dvorak, Czech Republic) added great extra interest, and the week completed with the Gala Dinner which had as its theme Habanos Cigars and Cinema. The auction, led by Simon Chase, and with all items to be signed by Fidel Castro, raised a staggering $450,000, with proceeds going towards the Cuban Healthcare System. Next year’s dates are already set for 21st to 25th February 2005.
