Scottish Member’s Bill threatens Cigar Bars and Restaurants

21st March 2004

On 3rd February Scottish Nationalist MSP Stewart Maxwell introduced ‘The Prohibition of Smoking in Regulated Areas (Scotland) Bill’ to the Scottish Parliament.

It proposes banning the service of food, except for a few snacks, in any room where a tobacco product has been smoked during the previous five days.

Restaurateurs and publicans would be subject to summary, criminal prosecution if they allowed a customer to light up or if they had not displayed sufficient signs.

Right now the Scottish Parliament is calling for evidence by Friday 23rd April.
