Cigar Great RIPThe cigar world has paid tribute to one of the industry’s great icons.Stanford Newman, featured in the last edition of Cigar Buyer passed away after suffering a heart attack while at work. Starting with the company in 1934 and having just celebrated his 90th birthday in June, Stanford was the oldest cigar man in the business. As chairman of the board, he continued to work everyday and oversaw every aspect of J C Newman’s Tampa-based cigar manufacturing operation. His sons released a statement on the company website. It read: “Not only will Dad long be remembered as a giving person in life, his generosity after his death will save another’s life. Dad’s liver is being donated to a patient in critical need. At a time of deep sadness, this uplifting gift of life brings comfort to our family. “Loved by all who knew him, Dad was a leader, a mentor and a visionary who will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elaine; his sons, Eric and Bobby; and his three grandsons Drew, Dawson and Paxton.” Section : News Page number : 4 This article is 70 months old and some information provided may be time sensitive.
