Davidoff expands

Davidoff is taking over the United Kingdom agency for PT Djarum, one of Indonesia’s leading tobacco manufacturers. It has also taken on the Swiss agency for PT Djarum, aiming to introduce a range of PT Djarum products in the autumn.

PT Djarum is known as the leading manufacturer of kretek or the clove laced cigarette, Indonesia’s unique contribution to the world of tobacco smoking.

Its three brands available in the United Kingdom are Djarum Super, Djarum Black and Djarum Special.

But PT Djarum is also the leading Indonesian cigar maker, manufacturing a range of smaller machine made cigars and handmade cigars.

While no decision has been taken yet about their introduction in the UK Davidoff has high hopes for Djarum’s clove laced cigarillo, called Spice Islands, which combines the best of Indonesia’s kretek and cigar traditions. Spice Islands is made of Javanese tobacco filler blended with natural cloves and rolled in the famous Besuki binder and wrapper from the highlands of East Java, producing a distinctive exotic taste.
