New Look for CubansFans of Cuban cigars are going to start seeing a change in the packaging of their favourite sticks.Habanos SA marketing director Enrique Babot revealed that the company is looking at the design and art work on several more of its cigar tubes. The change stems from the revamped Cohiba Siglo 6, which was launched last year in the new sliding tube. Mr Babot said that more changes were also going to be applied to the rest of the company’s prestige range. “All the tubes in the Romeo y Julieta are the same at the moment but we have redesigned them so they are in a stand-out red bonding on a white tube,” he said. “There will still be the screw cap design for some of the range, but the Churchill and the short Churchill will have the new design.” Mr Babot said the new sliding tubes were more expensive to manufacture but this would not affect the price. “We are looking at doing the same thing with the H. Upman, Partagas and Montecristo range over time,” he said. It is a little difficult to say when these will reach the United Kingdom. Hunter and Frankau’s Simon Chase said he expected the short churchill to hit the UK in the Summer. “There are some groundbreaking things going on,” he said. “With the new livery and new tube designs we can expect more innovation in the future.” Tubed cigars were original brought in to keep cigars fresh on British Rail company trains during the 1930s.
