Cigars the starsCigar smoking in the United Kingdom had its profile raised unexpectedly at the beginning of the year – but not necessarily for the good.Ironically, while politicians in Westminster were discussing the impending smoking ban, British Member of Parliament George Galloway was merrily puffing away on some large cigars in front of television cameras. The Bethnal Green and Bow MP courted some controversy for appearing on the Channel 4 reality television programme, Celebrity Big Brother, but he may have brought the sight of cigar smoking more into the public’s conscience at a very appropriate time. Rules governing product placement in the Big Brother house have made it hard to find out what Mr Galloway has been smoking, but it appears he enjoys Montecristo No.2s and Cohibas. Unfortunately for Mr Galloway, he was voted out of the house by the general public with one of the highest negative tallies in the programme’s history.
