Cigar chiefs put on a showThe country’s independent tobacco specialists proved that despite legislation pressures there was still plenty to smile about as they gathered for the 25th annual trade fair and a glitzy awards dinner.Exhibitors from across Britain were once more joined by several European companies at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottingham for the annual Association of Independent Tobacco Specialists exhibition. At the awards evening, Geoff ‘Chalky’ Wainwright, from Gerald Grudgings of Loughborough, was awarded the AITS Alan Darbey life time achievement award in recognition of more than 40 years of service to the tobacco trade. Paul Gilmour, from Reading’s Shave Coster shop, picked up the Peterson Retailer of the Year, and the Gawith Hogarth team scooped the Peter Kelly Supplier of the Year trophy.
