PT Djarum, Indonesia’s leading manufacturer of kretek or clove laced cigarettes, is launching a new brand of cigarillo on the UK market under the name of ‘Spice Islands’, which combines the best of Sumatran and Java tobaccos with the cloves that have made kretek an unique product in the world.

A year ago Djarum switched to a new agent in the UK, Merton & Falcon, which helped the expansion of Djarum’s kretek brands. Merton & Falcon was also looking for a replacement of its Dannemann range of cigars after Dannemann discontinued to supply the UK market.

“Besides kretek, Djarum also manufacturers very good and attractively priced small cigars under the Gold Seal brand and we decided to try them out,” explained Barrie Monaghan of Merton & Falcon.

He added that it was decided to introduce Gold Seal and the kretek cigarillo under the name of ‘Spice Islands’ at the upcoming National Tobacconists Trade Exhibition in Nottingham.
