Ban threat growsSmoking in Britain has taken another round of serious blows as a ban in public places starts to look increasingly inevitable. The hardest blow comes from a new report which claims that a proposed smoking ban is more popular with the public than the extension of pub opening hours. Consumer research conducted for Public Houses found that 39 per cent of adults would like a complete smoking ban whereas only 18 per cent would like to see later opening hours. However, the findings do not distinguish between smokers and non-smokers. The results also show that a smoking ban would alienate more young customers than older customers, with two-thirds of 18-24 year olds opposed to a total ban. This sector represents crucial trade for many urban pubs. Section : News Page number : 4 This article is 64 months old and some information provided may be time sensitive.
