London shop celebratesQuintessential cigar store Davidoff of London celebrates its 25th anniversary this month. To mark the anniversary Davidoff has released a limited edition 25th Anniversary Series cigar, there will be champagne for customers and a cigar roller on the premises as there was on the day the shop opened in 1980. There have been many changes in the clientele over the years; younger smokers have decreased the average age of the cigar smoker considerably, and many more women are frequenting the shop. But the most dramatic change to the premises has been the increase in price. Owner and aficionado Edward Sahakian remembers when the most expensive cigar sold in the shop was £6.25. “It was a Davidoff Dom Perignon Churchill size. People just couldn’t believe you could pay as much as that for a cigar. Now we sell individual cigars for as much as £32.” He is optimistic about the future for smokers despite impending restrictions. “I don’t mind being told where I can smoke and where I can’t, but I don’t want to be told I can’t smoke at all.” Current plans are to convert a space above the premises into a ‘smoking club’, a place for discerning Davidoff smokers to meet, relax, read the paper and smoke their favourite cigars in peace. Anniversary festivities will begin on 28th May and will continue throughout the year. Section : News Page number : 4 This article is 69 months old and some information provided may be time sensitive.
