We look at this remote corner of the United Kingdom which boasts some excellent cigar emporiums in very fine settings

Famed for its rugged coastlines, quaint bed and breakfast hotels and of course clotted cream, the South West peninsula of England does not often spring to mind as a Mecca for cigars lovers.

However hidden away are three locations where the cigar aficionado can find a haven and relax.

Our first port of call is Penzance where the West Cornwall Cigar Company holds sway with one of the biggest ranges in the area.

Located in the middle of Old Chapel Street, Penzance West Cornwall Cigar Company is a member of the Association of Independent Tobacco Specialists, Alfred Dunhill Principal Pipe Lighter Dealer for Cornwall and Cornwall’s only specialist in Habanos Cigars (Havana).

The shop stocks a wide selection of hand made cigars including its own label Honduras in bundles, quality machine made cigars including more own label Dutch in Cedar wood boxes. It also sells premium Cuban coffee to go with your favourite cigar.

Owner Chris Fletton said the cigar market at the moment seemed to be pretty buoyant.

He added: “For us it’s mainly Cuban brands and the top seller we have is the Trinidad Reyes. Also the robustos are going well as are the Romeo y Julietta short Churchill.” Chris has recently noticed some of the effects of the smoking ban.

“We have lost a few customers due to the ban. I don’t think they have gone elsewhere, I think they have given up as they cannot smoke anywhere. With the threat of pictorial warning as well it is just making life difficult.
