Orchant branches out

The UK’s largest and one of the most successful independent cigars retailer, Mitchell Orchant has joined forces with his old friend, Christoph Wolters, one of Germany’s most respected cigar retailers, and expanded into mainland Europe.

“Some people may think it is risky to open a new cigar shop in Germany despite all the recent smoking bans in other parts of the EU but the fact is that most of Europe’s cigar lovers haven’t actually stopped enjoying a fine smoke,” said Orchant.

The recent official opening of Orchant and Wolters’ first La Casa del Habano, in Hamburg, was attended by Cuban VIPs and some of Germany’s most notable cigar aficionados.

“What we are seeing in virtually every European country that has imposed a ‘no smoking’ ban is that sales of premium cigars in specialist cigar shops have risen dramatically,” said Orchant, who owns four of the UK’s top specialist tobacco shops - in Chester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.
