A heavenly match

The special relationship between Cuba and Scotland was strengthened further recently when judges from both countries joined forces to choose the perfect whisky and cigar combination.

The eventual outstanding pairing was The Macallan Cask Strength whisky and Partagas Piramides cigar. But to reach that conclusion about 250 judges in Havana and Glasgow whittled the choice of whiskies from about 30 whiskies to just eight and then finally one.

Runner up in the competition was Chieftain’s Cigar Malt with the Partagas Piramides.

The award to representatives of The Macallan took place at the Icons of Whisky dinner in London. Three stages of judging were held in all, showing how closely the two industries could work together.

“This has now become an established fixture on the calendar,” said the event’s organiser, Damian Riley-Smith. “Cigars and whisky are the perfect way to celebrate the pleasures of two interlinked but very different countries.”
